Submission for London Festival of Architecture, City Benches.
STOP! SIT re-imagines and re-purposes a classic item of street furniture, the concrete bollard, into a playful piece of public realm. By utilising a universally recognised symbol to stop, the bench looks to grab the attention of passers-by and offer a reminder that amongst the hustle and bustle of the city, sometimes we simply need to stop and sit. The monolithic, sculptural form of the bollard is both celebrated through repetition to form the back rest and reflected in the ergonomic, recesses within the cast-concrete seat.
